LPG Gas Bottle

What Is LPG & Where Is It Used?

LPG stands for Liquefied Petroleum Gas. It is commonly used for heating, hot water and cooking in properties that are not connected to the mains gas network.

Unlike mains gas, which is delivered through underground pipes, LPG is stored on site in bottles or bulk tanks and supplied directly to the property.

It is used in many types of property, from individual homes to larger commercial installations.

LPG is used in:

  • Rural and off-grid homes
  • Rented properties and holiday lets
  • Lodges and holiday properties
  • Park homes and mobile homes
  • Static caravans and holiday parks
  • Light commercial properties and systems up to 150kW
  • Larger commercial and multiple-property installations

LPG is a different gas supply, but customers can access the same main types of heating service: safety checks, servicing, diagnosis, repairs and installations.

Engineer with LPG Gas Bottle

Why LPG Requires Specialist Knowledge

LPG systems require a clear understanding of how the gas is stored, regulated and supplied.

LPG is delivered from bottles or bulk tanks and passes through regulators before reaching the appliances. The supply pressure, regulators, pipework and appliance setup must all be suitable for the installation.

The engineer must understand the complete system—from the stored gas supply through to the appliances it serves.

This ensures that LPG work is carried out safely, correctly and by an engineer with the appropriate LPG qualifications.

LPG Services Offered

We provide LPG gas and heating services for individual properties, landlords, holiday accommodation and commercial premises.

LPG Gas Safety Checks and CP12 Certificates

LPG safety checks and CP12 certificates are available for rented homes, holiday lets, park homes, mobile homes, static caravans and other LPG properties.

Multiple LPG certificates can be added during booking where suitable.

LPG Boiler and Heating System Servicing

Routine servicing helps ensure that an LPG boiler is operating safely and correctly.

LPG boiler servicing is available for individual homes, rented properties, holiday accommodation, park homes and light commercial systems up to 150kW.

LPG Fault Finding and Repairs

If an LPG boiler or heating system is not working correctly, the engineer must visit the property before determining the cause and what work may be required.

Because fault diagnosis and repairs do not have one fixed price, the first step is to book a fixed-price Heating & Plumbing Site Survey.

During the visit, the engineer will assess the problem and explain what has been found. A simple repair that can be completed within the Site Survey visit may be included. If parts, further work or additional planning are required, these will be quoted separately where appropriate.

LPG Boiler and Appliance Installation

We install and replace LPG boilers and other suitable LPG appliances.

Boiler replacements and installation work begin with a fixed-price Heating & Plumbing Site Survey. This allows the engineer to assess the existing system, installation requirements, access and any additional work before providing recommendations or a quotation.

Commercial, Larger and Complex LPG Systems

We work with light commercial LPG systems up to 150kW, as well as larger or more complex installations.

Fixed-price services for light commercial LPG systems follow the same booking route as equivalent natural-gas services.

Work that does not have its own fixed price must begin with a Heating & Plumbing Site Survey. This includes larger commercial installations, multiple-property sites, complex LPG systems, installations, fault diagnosis and repairs.

Our LPG Services Include

  • LPG Gas Safety Checks (CP12 certificates)
  • Fault finding and repairs
  • Boiler and heating system servicing
  • Installation and replacement of LPG appliances and systems
  • Connection and disconnection of LPG systems
  • Pipework and system setup, including supply from bulk tanks
  • System checks and safety assessments

Booking an LPG Service

LPG services use the same booking process as our natural-gas and heating services.

If the service has a fixed price, select and book it through the online Booking page. Where a separate LPG option is shown, such as an LPG Gas Safety Check, choose that service.

Fixed-Price Services

  • Gas Safety Checks and CP12 certificates
  • Boiler servicing
  • Available CP12 and boiler-service bundles
  • Specialist Heating & Plumbing Assessments
  • Power Flushing
  • Heating & Plumbing Site Surveys

If the work you require does not have its own fixed price, book a fixed-price Heating & Plumbing Site Survey.

The engineer must visit the property before determining what work is required, whether Direct Gas & Heating can undertake it and whether a separate quotation can be provided.

LPG in Everyday Use

LPG systems are found in many different types of property, from individual rural homes and holiday accommodation to commercial premises and larger multiple-property sites.

Domestic and light commercial LPG work follows the same service route as equivalent natural-gas work. Customers book the fixed-price service they require and provide the LPG details during booking.

A fixed-price Heating & Plumbing Site Survey is required where the proposed work does not have its own fixed price. This includes fault diagnosis and repairs, boiler or appliance installations, pipework alterations, larger commercial systems, multiple-property sites, bulk-tank systems and other complex requirements.

The Site Survey allows the engineer to assess the installation, appliances, access arrangements, scale of the work and safety requirements. It also allows Direct Gas & Heating to confirm whether the proposed work falls within its available capacity and service scope.

Where the work can be undertaken, a quotation will be prepared either during the visit or afterwards if further planning, materials or calculations are required. A written report is not included with the Site Survey.

Frequently Asked Questions

We may be able to carry out LPG gas safety checks for multiple properties, including holiday parks and larger sites.

Larger or more complex requirements must begin with a Site Survey so that we can assess the installation, scope, scheduling requirements and whether the work falls within our available capacity.

Yes. We work on individual LPG systems, light commercial systems up to 150kW and larger installations, including properties supplied from bulk storage tanks.

Fixed-price services can be booked online. Larger, complex or non-fixed-price work must begin with a Heating & Plumbing Site Survey.

If any issues are identified during the inspection, we’ll explain our findings clearly and discuss what they mean for the safety and operation of your LPG system.

Where corrective work is recommended, we’ll provide clear advice and, if required, arrange a separate visit to carry out the work.

Yes. Larger commercial LPG installations, multiple-property sites and other complex LPG requirements must begin with a £120 Heating & Plumbing Site Survey.

This allows the engineer to inspect the installation and assess the appliances, access arrangements, scale of the work, safety requirements and likely scheduling. The Site Survey also enables Direct Gas & Heating to confirm whether the work falls within its available capacity and scope.

Where the work can be undertaken, a quotation will be prepared either during the visit or afterwards if additional planning, materials or calculations are required. A written report is not included with the Site Survey.
